Reiki is a technique that is today used for stress reduction and relaxation. Originally birthed as a method for engaging spiritual energy, it evolved into an energetic healing form over time as the original masters perfected their understanding of the subtle energies. It is administered by what some call a “laying on of hands” yet one does not have to touch a person for the energy to work. It is based on the idea that a (God-given) unseen life force energy flows through all of us and is what causes us to be alive.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It is a Love-based work. The energy is a way to help oneself harmonize all aspects of self.
Reiki recognizes the whole person — body, emotions, mind (thinking) and spirit — creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation, feelings of peace, security and well-being.
Reiki energy has no negative side effects. It has been said to effectively help in virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect.
Reiki has begun being used in mainstream medicine (hospitals, hospice, etc). It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. Many non-traditional, holistic and alternative practitioners incorporate Reiki healing within their practices.
What Reiki is Not
- Its use is not dependent on one’s intellectual capacity or spiritual development and, therefore, is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.
- It is not a religion. While Reiki is spiritual in nature: it has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all, and will work whether you believe in it or not.
- It is not psychic healing, mind control or hypnosis. It is not wishful thinking.
- Reiki does not drain a practitioner’s energy. Some may gain restfulness from it; others are energized. Your intention to ‘Reiki On’ or ‘Reiki Off’ controls the flow.
There are three basic levels* of Reiki –
I: for self-use and on others in close proximity; history of Usui Reiki is discussed along with hand-placements for energy flow
II: for use with others, and in long-distance situations; Reiki symbols are introduced (both traditional and contemporary models)
III(a): training as a Advanced/Master, passing on attunements to students as well as more practical aspects of doing the work
III(b): training as a Reiki Teacher, learning what to teach and how to make that an integral part of your business
*NOTE: Often Levels 1-2 are taught as one training event over 2 or more days; Levels III (a) and (b) may be taught in one workshop over 2 or more days.
Grand Master Levels 4-18 go beyond Usui’s teaching, and further deepen a master’s spiritual growth. Over 25 different types of Reiki exist today, as channeled by various people worldwide, most of which are off shoots from the original reiki imparted by Dr.Usui.
